Project Description

The Stevensville Elementary After-School Program serves students from Stevensville, Montana, a small, rural town with a high poverty level and limited recreational opportunities for children. The Program is academically based and provides daily opportunities for elementary age children to receive homework help and tutoring, engage in the arts, and participate in recreation. A wide variety of other club activities including for example, crafts, science, computer, chess, cooking, gardening, woodworking, dance, drama, babysitting, fly fishing, and community service provide opportunities for enrichment and discovery. Life skills training is also offered during the elective segment of the Program. Monthly field trips, special speakers, and community service further enhance the learning experiences of the participants. The Program operates Monday through Thursday on regular school days. Each afternoon participants receive a healthy snack and bus transportation is provided each evening.
