Representative Work

We provide information that policymakers and educators need to improve literacy instruction in the classroom. These descriptions represent just a sample of our current projects.

We evaluate preschool, elementary school and middle school literacy programs to determine how they are being implemented and to assess their effectiveness in increasing student achievement.

  • Ohio Early Language and Literacy Classroom Observation (ELLCO)
    We are measuring the quality of literacy instruction and the professional development needs of teachers in preschool settings and elementary school classrooms. (Client: Ohio Department of Education)
  • Wisconsin Reading First
    We are conducting a five-year evaluation of the implementation and effectiveness of this literacy improvement initiative for Grades K–3. (Client: Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction)

We perform research to uncover the most effective approaches to improving reading and writing skills.

  • Randomized Control Trial of the Content Literacy Continuum (CLC)
    REL Midwest at Learning Point Associates is conducting a three-year, randomized control trial through its contract with the Institute of Education Sciences at the U.S. Department of Education to study the effectiveness of the CLC curriculum in high schools.
