What does an after-school program look like? From schools that are thinking about starting an after-school program to those with established programs in place, we often hear that people have difficulty visualizing how a program operates or how an established program can operate differently. This video looks at 4 different after-school programs throughout the country, highlighting the ways that successful linkages between after-school programs and the regular school day enhance the total school experience. The video and companion web site illustrate that there is no one "right" way to run a program, as long as it meets the needs of the participating students.
This video, produced by NCREL in partnership with WGBH Educational Programming, was designed to raise questions and stimulate discussion about linkages between after-school programming and the regular school day. The video visits four schools (two elementary and two middle schools) in 15-minute segments, highlighting the ways successful linkages can enhance the total school experience. Three training sessions are packaged with the video and are also part of this web site. The video can be watched in its entirety or in 15-minute segments. The video can be used as professional development to improve linkages in an existing after-school program, or as a tool to facilitate discussions about after-school programs in your community.
