Through a grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, Learning Point Associates has developed an 18-month calendar showcasing high-quality complementary learning activities and programs across the nation. Complementary means that the activity or program supports the learning that is happening during the regular school day. High-quality means that the program or activity uses engagement, capacity building, and continuity to promote better outcomes for participants.
Each month in the calendar highlights an afterschool program that is using complementary learning activities in creative and enjoyable waysfrom building science, computer, and technology skills to providing opportunities for art, music, and theater to participating in service learning, community improvement, volunteering, and cultural heritage connections. In addition, each month suggests questions that afterschool staff can consider when thinking about improving their programs.
