This product was developed by the West Virginia Department of Education.

Product Description
With the West Virginia Teacher Evaluation System, classroom observation teachers receive one of four ratings: exemplary, exceeds standards, satisfactory, and unsatisfactory in the following areas: programs of study, classroom climate, instructional management system, student progress, communication, professional work habits, and technology standards.

General Target Population Information
All teachers in West Virginia participate in this evaluation system.

Stage of Teacher Development
Teachers with less than three years of experience receive two formal evaluations annually. Teachers with five years of experience or more and who have not received an unsatisfactory rating have the option to complete a professional development plan in lieu of the classroom observation.

All school districts in West Virginia use this system. A new evaluation is tentatively scheduled to go into effect during the 2011–12 school year.
