A Partner in 21st Century Skills

As a member of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, Learning Point Associates is leading the way in developing methods for states and districts to integrate 21st century skills into teaching and learning.

We convene leaders in the field, providing forums for experts to deliver cutting-edge research and for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to nurture ideas and share knowledge across expertise and constituencies.

Experienced in Improving the Quality of Teaching in Mathematics and Science

For 13 years (1992–2005), Learning Point Associates ran the U.S. Department of Education’s North Central Eisenhower Mathematics and Science Consortium (NCEMSC). NCEMSC focused on improving mathematics and science achievement for all students as well as teacher and principal quality in the Midwest.

Our experience in providing effective professional development and training in mathematics and science includes:

  • Working with the city of Hammond, Indiana, (2003–05) on mathematics standards-based reform efforts. We monitored the district pilot of a standards-based mathematics program at the elementary level. We also improved the process for reviewing and selecting new mathematics materials to support existing curriculum in middle schools.
  • Implementing (2004–05) a comprehensive mathematics curriculum framework and leading teachers and staff in training on assessments and scientifically based instructional strategies in the Mahnomen (Minnesota) School District, a small, rural district in north-central Minnesota located entirely within the boundaries of the White Earth Indian Reservation.
  • Improving the mathematics and science learning of students in the Appalachian region of southern and south-central Ohio for Project REAL (Rural Education Aligned for Learning) in 2003. Project REAL focused on six rural Ohio school districts in danger of takeover by the Ohio Department of Education. As a result of Project REAL, these six districts were removed from the department’s watch list. Project REAL districts have maintained or continued to increase student achievement.
