Learning Point Associates Wins Final Comprehensive Center Contract
January 5, 2006
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS—The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education announced the final award for its Comprehensive Assistance Center Program. Learning Point Associates was selected to manage the work of the Great Lakes West Comprehensive Center to help low-performing schools and districts in Illinois and Wisconsin close achievement gaps and meet the goals of the No Child Left Behind Act.
Learning Point Associates, a nonprofit education organization, will partner with the American Institutes for Research, Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning, and the Wisconsin Center for Education Research to help increase the states’ capacities to assist districts and schools in meeting student achievement goals.
"Learning Point Associates is honored to receive this award, and we are committed to continuing to provide high-quality technical assistance to Illinois and Wisconsin,” stated Gina Burkhardt, CEO of Learning Point Associates. “We have a 20-year history of working with both states—our roots are in the Midwest and we are experienced at delivering research, development, and technical assistance through federal contracts and grants such as the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory, the North Central Eisenhower Mathematics and Science Consortium, and the North Central Regional Technology in Education Consortium."
According to the U.S. Department of Education’s website, the comprehensive centers under this program replace the former Comprehensive Regional Assistance Centers, the Regional Technology in Education Consortia, the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education, and the Regional Mathematics and Science Education Consortia.
Additionally, Learning Point Associates will manage the work of the Great Lakes East Comprehensive Center (www.learningpt.org/glecc) for Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio as well as oversee the work of the National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality (www.ncctq.org) on a national level. The organization also will conduct work for both the North Central Comprehensive Center operated by Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning and the National High School Center managed by the American Institutes for Research. The North Central Comprehensive Center serves Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota; the National High School Center is national in scope.
