U.S. Department of Education Selects Learning Point Associates to Establish National CSR Clearinghouse
October 27, 2004
Naperville, ILLearning Point Associates has been awarded a $1.5-million contract from the U.S. Department of Education to establish the National Comprehensive School Reform (CSR) Clearinghouse. The clearinghouse will promote comprehensive school reform as a strategy to enhance school improvement efforts and student achievement. It is available online at www.csrclearinghouse.org, and the Support Center can be reached at 877-277-2744.
Cheryl Smith, Democratic staff member of the House Appropriations Committee is hopeful that the clearinghouse will provide educators with the resources and tools they need to drive improvement. "My hope is that the clearinghouse will help districts and schools, which are under more pressure than ever before to raise student achievement, to know more about comprehensive school reform models and strategies with the strongest track records and how to implement them successfully."
Work on the clearinghouse begins immediately and will be accomplished in partnership with the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory (SEDL), WestEd, and the Education Development Corporation (EDC). The clearinghouse replaces the National Clearinghouse for Comprehensive School Reform, which transitions operations on November 30, 2004.
Learning Point Associates plans to expand the clearinghouse to provide additional materials, tools, and services that support the implementation and evaluation of comprehensive school reform efforts. The work will target those schools struggling to meet the accountability requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act.
"At Learning Point Associates, we believe in taking a systemic approach to education improvement and have been successfully involved in comprehensive school reform since 1998, when Congress provided funding to the regional educational laboratories to support the Comprehensive School Reform Demonstration (CSRD) Program," stated Gina Burkhardt, CEO of Learning Point Associates. "We are proud that the U.S. Department of Education recognizes our good work, and we are looking forward to working with our partners—SEDL, WestEd, and EDC."
Hugh Burkett, Ph.D., joined the Learning Point Associates team on October 25, 2004, as director of the National CSR Clearinghouse.
