Webcast to Feature National Experts on Educational Technology

Discussion to Focus on the Future of the National Educational Technology Standards

July 14, 2004

Naperville, IL—Learning Point Associates and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) are cohosting a webcast featuring national experts on technology standards, 11 a.m. to 12 noon, CDT, on Friday, July 30. Cathy Gunn, Ph.D., executive director of the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory (NCREL®) at Learning Point Associates, and Leslie Conery, Ph.D., deputy chief executive officer for ISTE, among others, will discuss student technology literacy and assessment and the relevance of the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS).

Expert panelists also include Gary Bitter, Ph.D., Arizona State University; Jim Bosco, Ed.D., Western Michigan University; and Lajeane Thomas, Ed.D., Louisiana Tech University. Each of the panelists will address questions, such as "How can states and districts assess their preparedness for the technology requirements associated with No Child Left Behind?" and "How will NETS be applicable to and supportive of meeting these requirements?"

"Educational technology decision makers are faced with how to ensure technology literacy for all students, embed technology efficiently into the curriculum, and build technology leadership skills for K–12 educators," said Dr. Gunn. "ISTE took the lead several years ago to develop technology standards for students, teachers, and administrators. This webcast is a unique event that brings together representatives from ISTE and the writers of the NETS to discuss how these standards can help states and districts assess technology literacy and technology integration to meet No Child Left Behind requirements."
