Gina Burkhardt

Gina Burkhardt, Chief Executive Officer
As CEO, Gina Burkhardt holds the most senior staff position and is accountable to the Learning Point Associates Board of Directors for meeting organizational expectations. She has been with the organization since 1997 and has held classroom teaching, research, consulting, and nonprofit management posts during her 25-year career in education.

Bob Davis

Robert M. Davis, M.B.A., C.P.A., Chief Financial Officer
As CFO, Bob Davis is charged with oversight of the organization's financial position and assets. The Office of Business Services is responsible for financial reporting, cash management, purchasing, payroll, accounts payable, travel, and general accounting; supervision of compliance with internal polices and procedures; and contract management and compliance. Davis has 15 years of financial experience and has been with Learning Point Associates since 1997.

Larry Friedman

Lawrence B. Friedman, Ph.D., Chief Officer, Evaluation & Policy Research Group
A member of the staff since 1986, Larry Friedman oversees the evaluation and policy research services of Learning Point Associates. This role includes monitoring regional and national education reforms; leading large-scale research and evaluation projects, investigating high-priority reforms, and communicating findings and recommendations to policymakers. His research interests are the policy frameworks and development of education infrastructures, especially school facilities and other learning environments; professional and institutional development systems; and information technology networks. Dr. Friedman is fluent in French and has worked with urban, rural, international, and economically disadvantaged populations.

Andrew Henry

Andrew Henry, Chief Officer, Research & Development Group
Andrew Henry joined Learning Point Associates in 2004 and is charged with overseeing, managing, developing, and implementing consultative services that support educators and education stakeholders. In addition, he manages the Educational Decision Support Services (EDSS) and the Center for Technology at the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory (NCREL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Learning Point Associates. He brings more than 17 years of experience in teaching, managing, and implementing programs in the education field. He holds a M.A. and B.S. degrees from Michigan State University.

Kate Nolan

Kate Nolan, Ph.D., Chief Officer, Professional Services Group
Kate Nolan joined the organization in 2003 and plays a key role in developing and leading a professional development and technical assistance group addressing comprehensive educational improvement issues. Her expertise is design and delivery of professional development in the areas of equity, accountability, leadership, and policy. With more than 20 years of experience in the education and nonprofit sectors, Dr. Nolan is fluent in Danish, competent in several other languages, and has worked in many culturally and economically diverse sites.

Paul Kimmelman

Paul Kimmelman, Ed.D., Senior Advisor to the CEO
Paul Kimmelman joined the staff in 2000 as a senior advisor to the CEO. He is an expert on education policy and the No Child Left Behind Act in particular. He has served as a consultant to the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in England and a senior consultant to Project 2061 professional development programs of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He worked in K–12 education for more than 30 years as a teacher, assistant high school principal, middle school principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent, and has been an adjunct professor at several colleges and universities. Currently, he is serving as an advisory board member for the National Council on Teacher Quality.

Sabrina Laine

Sabrina Laine, Ph.D., Senior Advisor, Research & Development Group
A skilled policy analyst, researcher, and project manager with nearly 10 years of experience with the organization, Sabrina Laine has managed state and federal contracts to conduct research and evaluation on such topics as school reform, teacher quality, class-size reduction, and student remediation.

Gil Valdez

Gilbert Valdez, Ph.D., Senior Advisor, Professional Services Group
Gilbert Valdez is a senior advisor and the director of the North Central Regional Technology in Education Consortium. During his 12 years at Learning Point Associates, he was the deputy director of NCREL and also managed the North Central Eisenhower Mathematics and Science Consortium. Dr. Valdez brings expertise in issues and programs related to mathematics and science, and to research technology applications that enhance teaching, learning, and curriculum. He began his career in education as a teacher with the Montgomery County (Maryland) Public Schools, then moved into the curriculum department and was the director of a team that designed and supported 17 magnet schools. Dr. Valdez also worked for the Minnesota Department of Education as the manager of the Instructional Design Department.

Susan Hopkins, Director, Office of Human Resources
An accomplished designer of learner-focused educational programs, Susan Hopkins joined Learning Point Associates in 2002, bringing expertise in the development and implementation of performance assessment processes and tools, professional development, and leadership development programs. Today, as the director of Human Resources (HR), she is responsible for management of HR policies, benefits, compensation, compliance, and other HR programs; providing employee relations support; and designing and delivering Learning Point Associates professional development programs and processes. With nearly 20 years of experience, she is an accomplished team leader, consultant, and coach with the proven ability to provide strategic direction, shape effective work environments, and build relationships based on trust.
