In 1984, Learning Point Associates was founded as the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory (NCREL®), one of the 10 regional educational laboratories funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The organization was chartered to develop information for policy, analysis, professional development, and other critical issues for the seven-state region (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin). We continue to serve those seven states with NCREL. Our work through Learning Point Associates extends throughout the United States and abroad.
In 2003, with the expertise of NCREL as its foundation, Learning Point Associates was formed to offer an expanded portfolio of products and services to educators. The nonprofit organization, headquartered in Naperville, Illinois, leverages its heritage by providing consultation, research, professional development, evaluation, and policy research through its three business units: the Research & Development Group, the Professional Services Group, and the Evaluation & Policy Research Group.
See dates above for a chronological accounting of how NCREL and Learning Point Associates came to be since 1984.
