Project Description

Nicholson targeted students who were at-risk in regards to failing attendance and reading and math performance. Through the interventions put into place, Nicholson was able increase the attendance and reading and math performance of the targeted students. Nicholson made Adequate Yearly Progress on the 2004 state assessment in all subgroups and the composite. The biggest barriers seen are bringing parents up to speed as to what school is like today for their child compared to when they were students. One area of change is assisting parents in how reading instruction looks today and what they can do at home to support their child's reading progress. One of the changes that has been brought about at Nicholson is that instruction to children is far more explicit. Also, it has been beneficial to have additonal resources at our hands.
