Ted Stilwill, past Director of the Iowa Department of Education, to oversee work of the Great Lakes West Comprehensive Center.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS—Learning Point Associates is pleased to add the expertise of Frederick (Ted) Stilwill, former Director of the Iowa Department of Education, to the growing number of dedicated and experienced staff at the nonprofit education organization. Stilwill brings more than three decades of experience in the education field to his role of managing the new Great Lakes West Comprehensive Center, a contract recently awarded to Learning Point Associates.
Stilwill will provide leadership and supervision to accomplish the center's mission: helping low-performing schools and districts in Illinois and Wisconsin to close achievement gaps and meet the goals of the No Child Left Behind Act. Learning Point Associates—with the added expertise of the American Institutes for Research, Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning, and the Wisconsin Center for Education Research—will focus on helping increase the states' capacities to assist districts and schools in meeting student achievement goals.

Stilwill served as Director of the Iowa Department of Education for nearly 10 years. His accomplishments at the department included developing and implementing a new local school district accreditation process; establishing the first management information system with data on students, staff, courses, and finances for community colleges; and implementing a new teacher quality policy that provided new standards for teachers and new mechanisms for teacher compensation. He also served as President of the Council of Chief State School Officers and as President of the Board of Directors for the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory®.
