Naperville, ILGovernor George Ryan has invited representatives of higher education, K–12 educators, state and local policymakers, and business and community members to attend the Illinois Mathematics Summit. The Summit will take place on Thursday, November 8, 2001, at Northern Illinois University's Naperville Campus. It will focus on increasing awareness about the state of mathematics education in Illinois.
Participants will be challenged to establish strategies for improvement in the following six areas:
Deputy Governor Hazel Loucks will present the status of mathematics in Illinois. John Dossey, Distinguished University Professor of Mathematics Emeritus at Illinois State University, will deliver the keynote address. Johnny Lott, president-elect of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, will provide the closing address. In addition, breakout sessions will be hosted by honored members of both the mathematics and the business community. The conference is sponsored by contributions from Blouke Carus and the Illinois Education Association.
