Elementary School Reading Plan Template (IDOE) will host free webinars beginning January 2011 to provide guidance for the development of the Elementary Reading Plan.

Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Student Report The Alternative Education Grant reimbursement requires the submission of a Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Student Report that records the actual attendance count for January 1 through December 31, 2010.

4. SuperMail: ISTEP+ Online Load Test December 6-10
Reminder: ISTEP+ Online Load Test December 6-10 Next week schools all over Indiana will be participating in a “load test” using the ISTEP+ Online test system. This is one critical part of ensuring that schools have the capacity to appropriately test one grade level of students online this spring.

5. SuperMail: 2011 Great Central U.S. ShakeOut
LETTER FROM DR. BENNETT: The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) has partnered with the Indiana Geological Survey, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, and safety officials from seven other states to participate in the 2011 Great Central U.S. ShakeOut. The 2011 ShakeOut is an earthquake drill that will involve more than one million people from several states. The drill will be the largest earthquake preparedness event in central U.S. history. The ShakeOut is centered around a simultaneous drop, cover, and hold drill to be held at 10:15 a.m. (EDT) on April 19, 2011.

7. SuperMail: Common Core State Standards Presentation and Learning Connection Community
The Common Core State Standards were finalized by the Chief Council of State School Officers (CCSSO) and National Governor’s Association (NGA) development and validation committees on June 2, 2010, for English Language Arts and Literacy for Social Studies/History, Science, and Technical Subjects and Mathematics were finalized by the Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and National Governor’s Association (NGA) development and validation committees on June 2, 2010. During the Fall of 2009 and Spring of 2010, educators and stakeholders from across the state of Indiana were provided with opportunities for input and to weigh‐in on the draft standards documents throughout the development process.

10. Media Advisory: Bennett and Apangea Learning to launch Hoosier Math Cup

Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett will join Apangea Learning to launch the Hoosier Math Cup on Nov. 23 at 9 a.m. at Greenwood Middle School.

The Hoosier Math Cup is a month-long online math skills competition for students in grades 5 through 12. Classes will log-on to Apangea’s online math intervention tutoring program to compete for the Hoosier Math Cup trophy. The contest also awards regional class champions and individual student winners.

Apangea’s math intervention program will reach more than 280 Indiana schools and learning centers this month and will be used by over 35,000 students.
