College Board Leadership Institute for Principals

Client: The College Board

The College Board Leadership Institute for Principals (CBLIP) was launched at the end of 2006 with support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help school leaders develop rigorous and nurturing school environments. The nine-month leadership program consists of three multi-day residential sessions, with one-on-one coaching taking place in between sessions. Principals are expected to apply their newly acquired knowledge, skills and tools to their schools and share the outcomes with their coaches and colleagues.

Learning Point Associates is conducting both formative and summative evaluations of CBLIP. The formative evaluation is generating feedback for the College Board on the quality, relevance and usefulness of each residential session. The summative evaluation is measuring changes in the principals' abilities, particularly in the areas of change, communication, conscious leadership, culture, data-driven decision-making and organizational development. Evaluation findings are being used to refine CBLIP's curriculum and design for future principal leadership institutes.
