A Day in the Life

3:20 p.m. to 3:40 p.m.
At 3:20, the students in the Community Learning Center (CLC) program gather in the cafeteria for a snack and announcements. Each student has a bar-coded I.D. number, which registers attendance on a computer.

3:40 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
At 3:40, most students begin homework. Some work one on one with a teacher or tutor. Others work independently, with after-school staff available for questions, or in groups on different projects. The after-school staff relies on communication; teachers and parents identify students who need help or who just need to focus on homework.

4:30 p.m. to 5:10 p.m.
At 4:30, everyone participates in enrichment activities. Students involved in drama rehearse for a play. Lego Robotics are offered in the computer labs, tapping and further developing students' math and computer skills. In Living Through History, students start their own virtual countries, stage elections, pass bills and tax laws, and negotiate for peace -- all based on historical systems of government.

5:10 p.m.
At 5:10, the day ends, and buses arrive to take students home.
